Allcott leads Symphony in final concert as music director

Maestro Dan Allcott leads the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra in his final concert as ORCMA’s music director on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Grove Theater, 123 Randolph Road, Oak Ridge.

The concert — “Season Celebrations” — features rising youth soloist Joshua Kováč performing Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.  The orchestra will be featured in music by Knoxville-based composer Jorge Variego, and in the ebullient Symphony No. 8 by Antonín Dvořák. 

Tickets are available online at, by calling (865) 483-5569, and at the door. Admission is $25; $10 for ages 19-29, and free for youths 18 and younger, according to a news release.

“Josh Kováč, a previous winner of the Ralph Einstein Youth Aliyah Competition, will wow the audience and remind us all of the importance of music education for our young people,” said Allcott. “Jorge Variego’s evocative composition reminds us of our shared connection to the beauty of East Tennessee. And the Dvořák Symphony is always a winner.  I’m eager to present this celebratory program for our community.”
